Flexible circuits (also variously referred to around the globe as flex circuits, flexible printed circuit boards, flex print, Flexi-circuits) are members of electronic and interconnection family. They consist of a thin insulating polymer film having conductive circuit patterns affixed thereto and typically supplied with a thin polymer coating to protect the conductor circuits. An FPC, on the other hand, is a special type of circuit board that’s characterized by a flexible construction.
FPC are unique because, unlike PCBs, they can bend and flex. Furthermore, they typically offer greater heat dissipation than their PCB counterparts, which can prolong the electronics in which they are used. All FPCs are made using a flexible substrate, such as polymide.
